Oh, y'all. We're going to celebrate a beautiful wedding day with these two this Friday, and I'm not ready. Why am I not ready?
Because I really, really need someone to teach me to salsa in like, two days. And I'm pretty sure my rusty Zumba salsa moves are NOT going to cut it!
Tacia and Gabe are going to have a wonderful summer evening wedding at Old Waverly Golf Club in West Point, Mississippi. It's going to be a night that celebrates their love for God, their love for each other, and their love for their families. It's going to be a night that combines the spicy energy of Gabe's hometown of Miami with the sweetness of Columbus hospitality. I'm pretty sure NONE of us is going to want the night to end! There's going to be laughter and lights and lots and lots of dancing, y'all. Because Gabe can dance FOR REAL. (No pressure, Gabe. But Jonathan and I will be fighting over who gets the best images of your First Dance. But no pressure!)
We've known Tacia almost as long as we have known her beautiful family. We've got a special streak going with Tacia and her sisters - we've photographed both her sister Anna's AND her sister Katy-Whitten's weddings! (You can see those beauties here and here.) And we count her family as some of our dearest friends, so we've followed this romance pretty closely, y'all. I had a feeling Gabe was The One almost as soon as I started hearing his name in conversation! The day he proposed was one of the sweetest days! And when Tacia reached out to us about being their wedding photographers, we were over the moon! Because let me tell you, this family knows how to do a wedding right, y'all!
On a beautiful March day, Jonathan and I spent the afternoon with Tacia and Gabe in Birmingham, visiting the places that were special to their hearts. We started their session where they first met - as students at the Church of the Highlands' Greystone campus. I don't think I was emotionally prepared for the precious, tender energy these have together. These images above? Five minutes into their session. Seriously.
I loved exploring Birmingham with these two! Our next stop was a VERY, very special location - the place where Gabe proposed! A year from the day he asked Tacia's dad permission to date her, he created a magical surprise proposal on the lake at Oak Mountain State Park. (You can visit their wedding website at The Knot to see all the sweetness of that beautiful day!) So we revisited that exact spot to create even more happy memories at Oak Mountain. (By the way, a Widespread Panic concert at Oak Mountain Amphitheater was the site of OUR first date, so it was extra cool for us to visit this area again!)
Tacia and Gabe are a joy to hang out with. They made it easy for us by talking about food, especially Cuban cuisine. And where to find the best pizza in Birmingham. I'm pretty sure I talked about pizza waaaay too much. And I will eat plantains, black beans, and rice any way you can cook them. See? Now I'm hungry. Before I start looking up recipes, let me share these sweet portraits of Tacia laughing in the March wind off the lake.
(Side note: these are the kind of portraits I love best. Not just because of the windblown look, although I do love playing in the wind, but because I feel like they capture something that is very true about Tacia. She has a special joy inside that comes from truly experiencing the goodness & faithfulness of God! I have a feeling that sixty years from now, when grand babies and great grand babies see these images, they'll say, "That's exactly how our grandmama laughs - that's exactly how she looks at our Grandpa! And that's exactly how he smiles back at her!!"
That's the kind of portrait I love best, y'all.)
Public service announcement: it's windy in March. Who knew?
So we ran from the wind and chased the sunset around Oak Mountain Park, and we found a beautiful little grove of pines that caught the golden hour light perfectly. And then, to end the day, we found a WONDERFUL spot overlooking the lake for just a few more romantic twilight moments.
I have so much thankfulness associated with these two. I'm so thankful that God brought them together, and I'm so thankful that they invited us to help them capture memories of this chapter of their love story.
And y'all, on a personal note, I'm so thankful for the sweet memories that Jonathan and I make as we celebrate with all our amazing couples! Every session and every wedding is a new adventure and memory for US. And I know this Friday is going to be a very special treasure of a memory. Happy Wedding Week, Tacia and Gabe!
